Locker FAQs
Choosing the right locker
What kind of lock do I require?
Choosing the right lock for your new lockers can be a challenge. We know which locks work best in which environments and for which application. Indoor, outdoor, wet area, public or private mode. It can be very daunting and expensive if you choose the wrong lock on multiple doors. That’s where our qualified team can help advise you on the best lock solution for your locker. Just ask on live chat or call 01772 322634 and we can help. We can even send you a sample lock to try out in advance.
Do I need an anti-bacterial coating?
Nearly all our lockers have an anti-bacterial powder coating. This special paint can prevent the harbouring of harmful germs and bacteria such as MRSA and E-Coli. It’s Science, I’m told!
Do I need a locker stand?
There are five main reasons why you may need a locker stand.
- A locker stand gives cleaners access to the area underneath the locker, allowing them to keep the area cleaner and more hygienic.
- If the floor gets wet,a stand will protect lockers from water ingress and rust.
- If the flooring is uneven a locker stand with adjustable feet can compensate for the
- People may accidentally kick lockers that are at floor level, this can then chip the paint, making the locker susceptible to rust.
- If cleaners mop the floor every day with bleach,it may get brushed against the locker, damaging the paintwork and causing the locker to rust.
Different types of locker
When are flat or sloping top lockers required?
Why have a sloping top on your locker you ask? Well, it simply stops people from leaving bags or unwanted items on top of the locker. This can be very important in certain environments such as hygiene areas. The sloping top is also usually a requirement by the HSE for the food industry, as it prevents the accumulation of dust on top of the locker. If you are choosing a low height locker for primary schools or golf clubs, it can prevent the top of the locker from getting damaged by people leaving heavy items on it.
What is a nested locker?
Nesting lockers are common, they make perfect sense when you have a run of lockers side by side. Lockers come as singles, a nest of two, or a nest of three (where available). A nested locker is attached to another permanently; these lockers cannot be separated at a later date. The advantage of nesting a locker is that it saves cost by sharing a sheet of steel which would normally be two sheets of steel if the lockers were individuals. It’s good to know your layout in advance so we can work out the most cost-effective nesting locker options for your project.
What are garment lockers?
The garment locker is a fairly niche unit. It allows the distribution of clean workwear using the garment dispenser locker and the collection of dirty workwear using a Garment Collector. The garment distributor can access all the compartments via a garment service door. The operative can open all the compartments at the same time and deposit the clean workwear. The staff then deposits the dirty workwear into a collector which is then serviced by the operative too.
What are the benefits of laminate lockers?
Laminate lockers or HPL (High-Pressure Laminate) lockers have unique properties. They cannot be dented or scratched, they are impact-resistant, water-resistant, and UV resistant. Most washroom lockers for changing rooms have HPL doors and aluminium carcasses. Aluminium doesn’t react with moisture and neither does the HPL door, which makes them perfect for high traffic wet areas such as swimming pool changing rooms. Couple this with wet area locks or smart RFID, MiFare technology that works with your EPOS system, then you have a user-friendly robust locker system that will last a very long time.
What are the benefits of mesh lockers?
Wire mesh lockers are a UK favourite. These lockers are lightweight, secure, zinc-plated, and moisture resistant, and have a great advantage for security! You can see what’s inside without opening the door.
Mesh Lockers are used frequently in the construction industry, for construction staff to store their belongings while working on site. They can also be used as a drying locker, where outdoor or wet clothing can be stored securely but dry at the same time because the garments inside are exposed to the air in the room.
Do you supply lockers for use outdoors?
There are only really a few outdoor locker solutions. The most common solution is the plastic locker. The plastic locker is robust, secure, and UV-resistant.
If your outdoor locker is going to be exposed to the elements then you need something like a Probe Ultra Box +, this has an additional weather seal around the door that stops driving rain from getting into the locker compartment. The probe Ultra Box is the same unit but without the weather seal.
The next option is unique to CS Storage, the Zintec Plastisol locker. This locker has been specially designed for outdoor use. Manufactured exclusively from Plastisol material, which is normally used for weatherproof roof cladding, it can withstand the harshest of environments. The plastisol locker is also scratch-resistant, with a plastic coating instead of a traditional powder-coated finish, this can be a more cost-efficient solution compared to the plastic lockers.
The final but most expensive outdoor locker is the stainless steel locker. This can be made for outdoor use but usually, the material is less cost-effective than others. We also offer a galvanised payment locker system for outdoor use for large public venues, see revenue share lockers for more details.
